Year 2025: Economic Offences Wing restores crores to victims, cracks job and land scams


Jammu, Dec 30, KNT: The Economic Offences Wing Jammu of the Crime Branch Jammu and Kashmir has recorded a landmark performance in 2025 by disposing of a record number of cases and complaints involving economic offences, while restoring crores of rupees to victims through sustained investigations and timely legal action.
Officials said the specialized wing took firm and decisive action against a wide spectrum of economic crimes across the Jammu zone, including fraud, cheating, forgery, job scams, visa frauds, impersonation cases, land frauds, misappropriation of government funds, and misuse of official position by public servants. Particular focus was laid on illegal job consultancies operating in the region.
During the year, EOW Jammu registered 67 new FIRs, the highest number in the past 25 years. The wing also disposed of a record number of cases involving complex and serious economic offences. The monetary value of cases chargesheeted before courts during 2025 is estimated at around Rs 20 crore. As many as 22 accused persons involved in different FIRs were arrested, with EOW teams deputed across the Jammu zone and other states of India to conduct searches and arrests.
Officials said these cases required meticulous scrutiny of documentary and digital evidence, along with sustained coordination with government departments, banks, and financial institutions. The timely disposal of cases, they said, reflects the professionalism and commitment of the officers and staff of the wing.

EOW Jammu also played a major role in public grievance redressal by resolving 1,186 complaints during the year after detailed factual and legal examination. In addition, organized networks of habitual offenders and professional fraudsters involved in systematic economic crimes were identified and booked under law, sending a strong deterrent message.
Further strengthening investigations, Photo Sections of EOW Jammu established in different districts provided photographic coverage of 3,599 crime scenes across various police stations in the Jammu zone, aiding in the preservation of crucial evidence.
Working under the guidance of Crime Headquarters Jammu and Kashmir, EOW Jammu also undertook awareness initiatives on new criminal laws and reiterated its commitment to safeguarding public trust through effective prevention and detection of economic offences. [KNT]
