‘149.92 lakh pilgrim tourists visit Jammu in 2022’

After refusing to divulge the information about the total number of tourist arrivals in the Jammu region last year in 2022 under RTI, the tourism department finally revealed the total numbers after the applicant submitted another application under the Right to Information Act.

The applicant MM Shuja, a social activist, environmentalist and senior journalist had sought replies from the tourism department with regard to multiple queries. The department, however, claimed that the queries don’t pertain to it.

The department as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust has revealed that in 2022, out of 159.33 lakh tourists, 149.92 were pilgrim tourists who visited various pilgrimage sites including temples, shrines and Gurudwaras.

The department further revealed that budgetary allocation for the Year 2022-23 under Capex budget was Rs.3468.20 lahks. [KNT]
