Bandipora, Jan 28, KNT: At least ten people were injured after a double-storied residential house collapsed suddenly during a condolence gathering at Chandergir village in the Hajin area of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district on Wednesday.

Officials said the incident occurred when a large number of people had assembled at the house to offer condolences following the death of the house owner, Ghulam Mohammad Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar, a native of Chandergir Hajin. Dar, a former Fire and Emergency Services personnel, had passed away a day earlier due to illness.

According to initial assessment, the heavy gathering inside the house led to excessive load on the structure, resulting in its sudden collapse. The incident triggered panic among the gathered mourners, with several people getting trapped under debris before being rescued.

Police said several women sustained injuries in the collapse. Those injured were identified as Sara Begum, wife of Mohammad Maqbool Dar, Meema Begum, Bilkisa Begum, Raja Begum, and Haleema Begum, all inhabitants of Chandergir village. Their condition was stated to be stable.
