Jammu, Feb 9, KNT: BJP MLA from Chenani Balwant Singh Mankotia on Monday said that the Centre has already given indications regarding restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, countering the Chief Minister’s repeated claims that adequate funds are not being provided to the Union Territory.
Talking to reporters, Mankotia said that the manner in which funds are being released to Jammu and Kashmir reflects a transitional phase. He said providing funds in instalments to a Union Territory is a clear indication that statehood will be restored.
“The Centre is releasing funds in instalments, which itself signals that Jammu and Kashmir will not remain a Union Territory permanently,” he said.
However, the BJP MLA also expressed concern over budgetary trends, stating that the government has reduced the revenue component in the Budget. He warned that such a reduction could have adverse consequences for employment generation in the region.

“When the revenue component is reduced, it directly affects job creation. This will lead to an increase in unemployment,” Mankotia said, adding that the issue needs serious attention.
The BJP leader said economic planning should focus on employment-oriented spending to ensure stability and livelihood opportunities for the inhabitants of Jammu and Kashmir. [KNT]
