CM Says Remarks Not Meant to Hurt, Targets LoP Over Reference to Grandfather

Jammu, Feb 11, KNT: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday expressed regret over his alleged remarks in the Legislative Assembly, stating that he had no intention to hurt anyone, even as BJP legislators continued their protest inside the House.

Speaking during the proceedings, the Chief Minister said he regretted his remarks if they had caused any hurt. He clarified that his comments were directed at specific members and not at their family members. Referring to Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, he said that the BJP’s “field commander” had dragged his late grandfather into the matter while leaving the House.

Earlier, BJP MLAs described the reported comment as inappropriate and against the dignity of the Assembly. The party members raised slogans inside the House and demanded that the Chief Minister withdraw the remark and tender an apology, leading to a brief walkout.

The legislators later returned to their seats and reiterated their demand for an apology. They maintained that the Chief Minister should state that the remark was a slip of the tongue, express regret and apologize to the House.
