A local court Thursday rejected the bail plea of alleged conman from Gujarat, Kiran Patel, who as per the police masqueraded as top official from PMO and enjoyed security cover from the police and hospitality of the government.

Patel was arrested on March and subsequently, he was sent to judicial custody for 15 days.

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Srinagar Raja Tasleem Arif after keeping the bail order reserved on Monday found the bail plea “devoid of any merit”.

The bail plea was moved by Advocate Rehan Gowhar, the counsel for the accused.

“I am of the considered opinion that arguments advanced by APP are just, proper and appealing and carries much weight and on the other hand I respectfully disagree with the submission put forth by Counsel for the applicant (Patel) because in case at this stage discretion of bail is exercised in favour of the accused it shall definitely destroy the very fabric of the investigation,” the court said adding that: “Resultantly, in my considered opinion the instant application is devoid of any merit which deserves to be rejected, hence rejected.”  [KNT]
