‘Short Circuit’ in train engine sparks fire at Qazigund Railway Station

A virtually empty compartment of a passenger train halted at Qazigund Railway Station caught fire on Thursday after a ‘short circuit’ in the engine, Railway officials said.

They told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that the incident took place when the train (09760) from Budgam to Banihal stopped at Qazigund Railway Station.

“Prima facie it was a short circuit in the engine. Smoke started emanating from the compartment that was dissipated using fire extinguishers,” the officials said adding that there was no loss of life or injury to anyone in the incident.

The officials said that there were no passengers in the train at the time of the incident. “The investigation is ongoing, and the cause of the fire is inconclusive,” they said. [KNT
