Jammu–Srinagar Highway Partially Reopens After Eight-Day Closure

Udhampur, Sep 10, KNT: The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway was partially reopened on Wednesday after remaining closed for eight consecutive days due to massive landslides at Thard in Udhampur district.

Traffic officials said that passenger movement was restored in the morning when light motor vehicles were allowed to ply from 9:20 am onwards. However, the movement of heavy vehicles will remain suspended until the damaged stretch is fully restored.

T
he strategic highway, considered the lifeline of Jammu and Kashmir, had been blocked following continuous landslides triggered by rains, cutting off supplies to the Valley. Restoration work has been ongoing, but officials said clearing the debris and stabilising the hill slope is taking longer than expected.
