‘Several initiatives taken for quick revival of Kashmir tourism’

For the last two years, Jammu Kashmir has been receiving a record number of tourists. Though domestic tourists are coming in large numbers, foreign arrivals have also picked up.

An official from the Department of Tourism told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that last year J&K received a record number of tourists and the Department for the last two years has been consistently diversifying its tourism products which have gone well among the tourists.

He said the Department during the last two years has taken several new initiatives for the quick revival of tourism in Jammu and Kashmir.

“Besides, Gulmarg, resorts of Pahalgam, Sonamarg, Doodhpathri, and other resorts were kept open this year and these destinations received considerable footfall,” the official said adding that more tourist destinations will be identified and upgraded.

He said new trekking routes, rafting and adventure activities have been added to the recreation portfolio for sustaining the interest of coming tourists.

“This is besides the opening of new areas like Gurez and other border areas for tourism which have enhanced the attraction and urge for visiting Jammu and Kashmir,” he said adding that tourism players are also playing a key role in the promotion of tourism industry. [KNT]
