Police on Friday said that a militant was killed during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday in the forest area of Dassal Gujran near Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Jammu Additional Director General of Police Mukesh Singh said that there was an exchange of fire between militants and joint forces in the middle of the night in Rajouri forest area, while in the morning, the body of a militant has been retrieved.
Meanwhile, Army PRO for Jammu, Lieutenant Colonel Devender Anand said that suspicious movement was noticed in the forest area of Dassal Gujran near Rajouri. “On being challenged by our troops, they [the militants] were fired upon, which was retaliated by our troops. Sporadic firing continued throughout the night,” he said, adding that search operations were launched at first light by a joint team of the Indian Army and the Jammu and Kashmir Police.
Pertinently, army had apprehended three infiltrators after an exchange of fire a couple of days back in a joint operation near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district’s Khari area. A militant and a soldier had sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.
In twin districts of Rajouri and Poonch, the militants have so far killed 10 soldiers and seven civilians since the beginning of the current year. [KNT]
