IGP Kashmir Vows to Crush Drug Menace, Targets Habitual Offenders

 

Srinagar, Jan 24, KNT: Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, V K Birdi, reaffirmed the police’s commitment to eradicating the drug menace, promising stringent action against drug peddlers and habitual offenders.

Speaking to reporters during the full-dress rehearsal for Republic Day celebrations, IGP Birdi assured that habitual offenders evading arrest would be tracked down and booked. “The fight against the drug menace will be taken to its logical conclusion, and no habitual offender involved in drug trafficking will be spared,” he stated.

Addressing concerns about influential figures in the drug trade remaining untouched, the IGP emphasized that all habitual offenders are under close surveillance. “No one is above the law, and we are determined to act against everyone involved,” he added.

Regarding security measures for Republic Day, IGP Birdi encouraged public participation. “Comprehensive security arrangements have been made, and I urge people to come in large numbers to witness this event. Republic Day is a celebration for all citizens,” he said.

When asked about the involvement of surrendered militants in militancy-related activities, IGP Birdi clarified that the police maintain strict surveillance under established Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to monitor individuals with a history of misconduct.
