US President Donald Trump on Tuesday reacted to reports of India’s military strikes on targets inside Pakistan, describing the situation as “a shame” and urging both countries to de-escalate.

“We just heard about it. It’s a shame,” Trump told reporters, commenting on what is being referred to as Operation Sindoor.

“I hope it ends very quickly. Nobody wants to see two powerful nations going down that road,” Trump added. “These are countries with long histories and deep tensions, but the world needs peace, not more conflict.”

The strikes come almost two weeks after the barbaric terrorist attacks in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam, in which terrorists shot dead 26 civilians in a tourist spot.

In response to the strikes, Pakistan has opened artillery fire along the Line of Control in the Bhimber Gali in the Poonch-Rajauri area, the Indian Army said. The troops are “responding appropriately in a calibrated manner,” they added.

India Today quoting sources reported that officials stated the strikes as highly precise and deliberately restrained, avoiding any encounter with the Pakistani military.

Pakistan has vowed to retaliate after India’s airstrikes on Kotli, Bahawalpur, and Muzaffarabad. ISPR DG Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry condemned the strikes, calling them a “cowardly attack” and confirmed Pakistan’s response at a time and place of its choosing.

UN chief has called for maximum restraint between India and Pakistan.

Indian Embassy in Washington, US said that “India’s actions have been focused and precise. They were measured, responsible and designed to be non-escalatory in nature. No Pakistani civilian, economic or military targets have been hit. Only known terror camps were targeted.
