Patwari Caught Red-Handed While Accepting Bribe in Budgam

Budgam, July 12, KNT: In a major anti-corruption action, the Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested a revenue official red-handed while accepting a bribe from a complainant in Budgam district.
According to official sources, the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Tahir Jan Malla, serving as Patwari Halqa Humchipora in Budgam, had demanded a bribe of Rs 2,000 each for processing two sale deeds and effecting online mutation (Intiqal) of a land parcel situated at Alamnaag Khag in favour of the complainant.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Anti-Corruption Bureau initiated discreet verification, which confirmed the authenticity of the bribery demand made by the accused public servant.
Consequently, a formal case was registered under FIR No. 14/2025 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 at Police Station ACB Srinagar. Following due legal process, a trap team was constituted to apprehend the accused.

The ACB team successfully laid the trap and caught the Patwari, identified as Tahir Jan Malla, a resident of Sebdan Budgam, red-handed while he was demanding and accepting the bribe amount of Rs 2,000 from the complainant.
The accused was immediately taken into custody after all medico-legal formalities were completed. Officials confirmed that further investigation in the case is ongoing to probe possible involvement of other officials and determine whether this was part of a larger malpractice network. [KNT]
