
Srinagar, Oct 29, KNT: A House Committee of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly has been constituted to recommend a comprehensive revision of salaries, allowances, and pensionary benefits for sitting and former legislators of the Union Territory. The committee, chaired by BJP lawmaker leader Surjit Singh Slathia, presented its detailed report to the Assembly earlier this week.
According to the official document, the committee comprises Ali Mohammad Sagar, Ghulam Ahmad Mir, Sajad Gani Lone, Hasnain Masoodi, Mir Mohammad Fayaz, Pirzada Farooq Ahmad Shah, Arjun Singh Raju, and Muzaffar Iqbal Khan as members. The Secretariat support team included Manoj Kumar Pandit (Secretary), Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Shabir Ahmad Wani, Fayaz Ahmad Joo, and Muzafar Ahmad Bhat.
The committee, as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust was tasked with reviewing the financial and administrative structure governing legislators’ compensation, which had not been revised for eight years. It proposed substantial revisions, including an increase in monthly salary from Rs 60,000 to Rs 80,000 and a rise in constituency conveyance allowance to Rs 1.10 lakh per month.
The panel also recommended amendments to enhance medical, telephone, and secretarial assistance allowances, along with pensionary benefits for ex-legislators and their families. Additionally, it proposed increasing housing loan eligibility from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 75 lakh and car advance from Rs 10 lakh to Rs 25 lakh.

The report, tabled in the House on October 27, 2025, emphasized that the revision is essential to align the entitlements of J&K legislators with those in other states and Union Territories. [KNT]
