Public Demand Grows for Full-Fledged Tehsildar in North Srinagar

Srinagar, July 12, KNT: Residents of North Srinagar have voiced serious concern over the absence of a full-time Tehsildar, lamenting that the Tehsildar Khanyar, already burdened with responsibilities, is currently holding additional charge of the area, causing significant delays in revenue-related public services.
Citizens across the constituency, which comprises a large urban population, say they are facing unnecessary hardships in getting basic documentation and revenue matters resolved due to the administrative gap. “The officer is competent, but with two tehsils to manage, even urgent matters get delayed. The load is just too much,” said a local resident to the news agency Kashmir News Trust.
People have termed the situation as a return of the ‘additional syndrome’, a practice they say reflects poorly on the administration’s commitment to efficient governance. “We had seen some improvement earlier, but now, once again, North Srinagar has been left without a dedicated Tehsildar. It’s deeply disappointing,” said another local.
People appealed directly to the Commissioner Secretary Revenue, urging him to immediately depute a full-fledged Tehsildar to the North Srinagar tehsil.

They argue that the area, being densely populated and dealing with numerous civic and legal issues, cannot be effectively administered under an additional charge arrangement. “Revenue offices are pivotal in day-to-day governance. It’s unacceptable that such a vital administrative post remains under-staffed,” they stressed.
The locals hope the administration will act swiftly to end the crisis and ensure uninterrupted public services by posting a permanent and dedicated officer to the post. [KNT]
