Kulgam Operation Enters Eighth Day, One Militant Killed So Far

Security forces on Friday continued their operation in the Akhal Devsar area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district for the eighth straight day, making it one of the longest anti-militancy operations in recent months. So far, one militant has been killed in the ongoing gunfight.

The encounter began nearly a week ago when security forces engaged militants in the forested Akhal belt. One militant was neutralised during the initial exchange of fire, which continued through the night. The operation is being jointly carried out by the Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, and the Special Operations Group (SOG).

Chinar Corps of the Indian Army said on X that “intermittent and intense firefight” has been taking place, with troops responding with “calibrated fire” to tighten the cordon while keeping constant contact with the hiding militants.

Meanwhile, in a separate action in north Kashmir, Baramulla Police claimed to have busted a militant hideout in the Gogaldara-Danwas forest. The recovery from the site included a pistol, a magazine, nine live rounds, a grenade, and some medical supplies.
