Name & Shame: FDA Suspends Nine Food Licenses in Srinagar, Anantnag

Srinagar, Aug 26, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Tuesday suspended nine food business licenses across Srinagar and Anantnag as part of a major crackdown on the sale of rotten meat, synthetic cheese and expired sweets.

Officials said the move came after large-scale seizures earlier this week, when FDA teams confiscated more than 12,000 kilograms of meat, 21 quintals of synthetic cheese and 440 quintals of expired rasgulla that were allegedly being pushed into markets ahead of the festival season.

In Anantnag, the list features Jubilant Food Works Limited which operates Domino’s Pizza on KP Road, along with Shaun Shahi Biryani on KP Road, Shan Fish Fry at Achabal Adda, Bismillah Sweets at the Industrial Estate, and Khanday Poultry at Kadipora.

The FDA has warned that violators will face prosecution under the Food Safety and Standards Act, a law that allows penalties of up to ten lakh rupees, cancellation of licenses and imprisonment for as long as six years. The department revealed that out of twelve food samples tested in recent days, four were found unsafe due to harmful synthetic colours.

Officials further said that investigations are continuing and more establishments could come under the scanner in the days ahead as part of the intensified drive. [KNT]
