AAP Leader Sanjay Singh Reaches Jammu Over Mehraj Malik’s Detention

Jammu, Sep 11, KNT: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Member of Parliament Sanjay Singh arrived in Jammu on Wednesday in the wake of MLA Mehraj Malik’s detention under the Public Safety Act (PSA).

Malik, who represents Doda, was taken into custody earlier this week, prompting widespread protests and restrictions on public gatherings in the district. The authorities had imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 BNSS, 2023, restricting the assembly of four or more persons.

Singh’s visit is being seen as an attempt by the AAP to mount political pressure on the administration and extend solidarity with Malik’s supporters. He is expected to meet party workers and civil society groups during his stay in Jammu.

Local sources told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that security has been tightened around key locations in Doda amid apprehensions of demonstrations. Authorities have so far not commented on Singh’s itinerary or whether he will be allowed to travel to Doda.

Sources said the issue may intensify the confrontation between AAP and the local administration, especially with opposition parties already questioning the grounds of Malik’s detention. [KNT]
