Labourer Killed, Another Injured As Marble Sheets Fall From Truck In Tangmarg

Tangmarg, Oct 21, KNT: A labourer was killed and another injured in a tragic accident on Tuesday after heavy marble sheets fell on them while unloading materials from a truck in the Dewan Bagh area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
Police identified the deceased as Aasif Ahmad, son of Manzoor Ahmad, a resident of Murchana Ibkote area of Karnah. The incident occurred when the workers were unloading marble slabs from a truck parked near a construction site. During the process, several sheets reportedly slipped and fell on them, causing critical injuries.
Eyewitnesses said panic gripped the area as the labourers came under the heavy slabs. Locals immediately rushed to the spot and helped in rescuing the injured before the arrival of police and medical teams.

The injured labourer, identified as Faisal Ahmad Lone, was shifted to the Sub-District Hospital Tangmarg, where he is undergoing treatment. Hospital sources said his condition is stable.
Police officials confirmed the incident and said a case has been registered to investigate the circumstances leading to the mishap. “An FIR has been lodged, and further investigation is underway to determine whether safety protocols were followed during unloading,” an officer said.
Locals have urged the administration to ensure strict adherence to safety measures at construction and unloading sites, saying that such tragedies often occur due to negligence and lack of proper supervision. [KNT]
