Awantipora Police records major gains in drugs in 2025



Awantipora, Dec 31, KNT: Awantipora Police on Wednesday reported significant achievements during the year 2025, stating that sustained law enforcement, counter-militancy operations, cyber policing, humanitarian response and community engagement remained central to its efforts to ensure public safety and national security.

According to police, a focused campaign against narcotics under the NDPS Act led to the registration of 62 cases during the year, with 96 accused persons arrested. Police said 12 drug peddlers were booked under the PIT NDPS Act, while four properties belonging to drug traffickers, valued at approximately ₹1.56 crore, were attached after due legal process.

Police further said large-scale destruction and seizure drives were carried out, resulting in the destruction of illegally cultivated poppy spread over more than 35 kanals and nine marlas, along with wild bhang over 35 kanals. An amount of ₹1,12,170 in cash was also seized during various operations.

Significant quantities of narcotics and contraband were recovered during the year, including 186.42 grams of heroin, 87.241 kilograms of cannabis powder, 55.300 kilograms of poppy straw, 3.524 kilograms of charas, 330 Spasmo Proxivan capsules and four bottles of illicit liquor.

On the counter-militancy front, police said one encounter took place during 2025 in which three militants were neutralised and one militant was arrested. Officials said three terror modules were also busted during the year. Preventive security measures included 17 detentions under the Public Safety Act, binding down of 320 overground workers and 408 other miscreants.

Awantipora Police also intensified action against illegal mining, registering 123 FIRs, seizing 251 vehicles and arresting 408 persons involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minor minerals.

Police said sustained efforts were made to track absconders, resulting in the arrest of 42 absconding accused who were subsequently produced before the competent court of law.

In cyber crime response, police said 420 cyber complaints were received during the year. Through timely intervention and coordination with banks and agencies, an amount of ₹28,16,614 was recovered and returned to victims of cyber financial fraud.

Police also highlighted their humanitarian role, stating that during floods and other natural calamities, personnel carried out rescue and evacuation operations and provided food, temporary shelter and essential relief in coordination with the civil administration.

Under the Civic Action Programme, Awantipora Police conducted 59 community-oriented activities, including quiz competitions, band shows, debates, Run for Unity events, sports tournaments and cultural programmes, aimed at strengthening police public relations and youth engagement.

Police also ensured the preservation of a centuries-old stone sculpture, which was safely handed over to the Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums for conservation.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy against terrorism, narcotics, illegal mining, cyber crime and other unlawful activities, Awantipora Police said it remains committed to public safety, humanitarian service and community welfare. [KNT]
