Handwara, June 1, KNT: Panic swept through the outskirts of Handwara town in North Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Saturday after the body of a local shepherd was discovered hanging from a tree under suspicious circumstances.
The deceased, identified as Farooq Ahmed Shabangi, son of Ahmed Ali and a resident of Shelthera Haril, had reportedly gone to graze his cattle in a nearby forest as per his daily routine. However, concern grew among family members when he did not return home by evening. Their worst fears came true when they found his lifeless body hanging from a tree deep inside the forest.
The chilling discovery has left the local community in shock. According to Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Handwara, Ifroz Ahmed, initial investigations point towards murder. “It appears that unidentified persons have hanged Farooq. We have registered a case and launched a thorough investigation,” he told KNT.
