CPI(M) Calls for Return of Democratic Rights, Adopts Special Resolution on J&K, Demands Immediate Restoration of Statehood


Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 18, KNT: The Central Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has unanimously adopted a special resolution demanding the immediate restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and the full restoration of democratic rights to its people.
The resolution was adopted during the Central Committee meeting held from January 16 to 18 at EMS Academy in Thiruvananthapuram. The party said the prolonged denial of statehood and democratic institutions to Jammu and Kashmir is unacceptable and undermines the federal and democratic framework of the country.
The CPI(M) said Jammu and Kashmir must be restored to its constitutional position as a state, with all democratic rights returned to the people without further delay. The party reiterated that elected governance, political freedoms and representative institutions are essential for addressing the aspirations and grievances of the region.
The Central Committee expressed concern over what it termed the continued weakening of democratic processes and accountability mechanisms in Jammu and Kashmir, stressing that lasting peace and stability cannot be achieved without political empowerment and democratic participation.

The party said the restoration of statehood is not a concession but a democratic necessity, and urged the Union government to take immediate steps to reverse measures that have reduced Jammu and Kashmir’s political status and rights.
The CPI(M) reaffirmed its commitment to continue political and democratic struggle in support of the people of Jammu and Kashmir until statehood and full democratic rights are restored. [KNT]
