Driver arrested as Pulwama Police foil drug smuggling attempt


Pulwama, Jan 6, KNT: Pulwama Police on Tuesday intercepted a truck during naka checking at Litter, leading to the recovery of a substantial quantity of heroin-like substance valued at lakhs of rupees in the international market, officials said.

According to police, the truck bearing registration number JK22B 3175 was stopped for checking during routine naka duty. Upon search of the vehicle, police recovered 263 grams of a heroin-like substance.

The driver of the truck, identified as Ather Maqbool Ganie, son of Moqbool Ahmad Ganie and a resident of Waghama, Bijbehara, was apprehended on the spot. The vehicle involved in the offence was also seized by the police.

Officials said that a case under FIR No. 03/2026 has been registered under Sections 8 and 21 of the NDPS Act at the concerned police station. Investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and intended destination of the seized contraband and to identify other persons who may be involved in the narcotics network.

Police said efforts are underway to trace forward and backward linkages of the case, adding that strict action will be taken against all those found involved in drug trafficking activities.
