Locals protest against opening of bar in Kathua

Kathua, Jan 10, KNT: A protest erupted in Kathua on Saturday against the opening of a new bar, with men and women jointly staging demonstrations and demanding its immediate closure.
The protesters alleged that the increasing number of wine shops and bars in the region is adversely affecting the moral fabric of society. They said such establishments are creating social problems and negatively influencing youth, families and the overall atmosphere in residential localities.
According to the protesters, another bar is being established in Ward 21 of Kathua, triggering strong resentment among locals. Residents of the area assembled near the site and raised slogans against the move, urging the authorities not to allow the bar to function in the locality.
Participants in the protest said they would not tolerate the opening of liquor-related establishments in residential areas and warned that continued inaction by the administration could force them to intensify their agitation. Women protesters, in particular, voiced concern over safety, social values and the impact on younger generations.
