State Awards Announced in Ladakh, Scientist Sonam Lotus Among Awardees

Leh, Jan 25, KNT: The Union Territory of Ladakh has announced the recipients of State Awards on the occasion of Republic Day 2026, recognizing individuals and organizations for their outstanding contribution in various fields including public service, bravery, sports, literature, social reform and progressive farming.

As per an official order issued by the General Administration Department, sanction has been accorded for the grant of State Awards for the year 2025 to selected awardees. Among those honoured is Sonam Lotus, Scientist-F, who has been conferred the State Award under the Public Service category for his contribution in his field while serving in Leh.

Under the Bravery category, the awards have been granted to Tashi Namgial of Shangul, Kargil, and Sonam Chosphel of Minji, Kargil. In the Literature, Art and Craft category, Konchok Rigzin of Thrinles Nangal, Leh, has been selected.

For Social Reform, Empowerment and Environment Protection, the award has been conferred upon Thubstan Shastri of Nangsar Thuptse, Leh.

In the category of Entrepreneurship and Progressive Farming, Yangchan Dolma of Saboo, Leh, has been recognised, while the Ladakh Organic and Green Initiative Consultancy, headed by Ahmad Ali of Bemathang, Kargil, has also been awarded for its work in sustainable practices.

Under the Sports category, the State Awards have been granted to Mohd Abbas Norkdakh of Leh and Abida Afreen of Chuchot, Leh.

Officials said that each awardee, or their family representative, will be presented with a cash prize of Rs 51,000 along with a medal and citation. The awards will be formally presented at a separate function to be organised by the UT Administration of Ladakh.

The order has been issued with the approval of the Lieutenant Governor, Union Territory of Ladakh. [KNT]
