Termination of Employees: Selective Use of Article 311 in J&K Unacceptable: Waheed Para

Srinagar, Jan 13, KNT: People’s Democratic Party leader Waheed Para on Tuesday alleged that Article 311 is being misused selectively in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that such actions are not witnessed anywhere else in the country.

Reacting to the recent termination of government employees, Para said every rule appears to be applied only in Kashmir, while due process is being ignored. He questioned the government’s approach of dismissing employees without conducting proper inquiries.

“Why can’t investigations be completed and facts established before terminating employees. Without inquiries, such actions are unjust and arbitrary,” Para said.

He said a large number of employees have already been terminated, warning that the continued use of such measures sends a message that people are being pushed to the wall. Para said this approach risks deepening alienation and mistrust.

The PDP leader also raised concern over what he described as profiling measures, stating that no religion should be targeted under any pretext. He said profiling of mosques and clerics is wrong and will only widen existing gaps in society.

Para demanded that the government withdraw the circular related to profiling of mosques and religious preachers, stating that the process must be ended immediately. He said such steps undermine social harmony and constitutional values.

“We condemn these actions and urge the government to reconsider its decisions in the larger interest of peace and trust,” Para said. [KNT]
