Jammu Police rescue 16 bovines during anti-smuggling drive at Jhajjarkotli


Jammu, Feb 1, KNT: Jammu Police (Rural), continuing its intensified drive against illegal bovine smuggling under Operation Kamdhenu, rescued 16 bovine animals during routine checking and patrolling at Jhajjarkotli, officials said on Sunday.
According to police, a team from Police Station Jhajjarkotli, led by Inspector Vikas Dogra, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK08E 4932 during night patrolling. On noticing the police party, the driver fled from the spot under the cover of darkness, abandoning the vehicle.
The vehicle was subsequently seized, and all 16 bovine animals were rescued safely. Officials said the animals were being transported illegally and in violation of prescribed norms.
In this regard, FIR No. 16 of 2026 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act has been registered at Police Station Jhajjarkotli.

Police said further investigation is underway to identify and apprehend the absconding driver and other persons involved in the case. The drive against illegal bovine smuggling will continue with increased checking and patrolling at vulnerable points across the rural belt.
Officials reiterated that strict action will be taken against those found involved in illegal transportation and cruelty towards animals. [KNT]
