Para Questions Govt’s ‘Disbursal’ Claims Under Ladli Beti, Marriage Assistance Schemes

Jammu, Feb 20, KNT: PDP legislator Waheed Ur Rehman Para on Friday questioned the government’s claims regarding disbursal of funds under key social welfare schemes, alleging that substantial amounts reflected as released have not actually reached beneficiaries.
Para said that under the Ladli Beti Scheme, nearly Rs 300 crore has been shown as disbursed, while approximately Rs 200 crore remains pending. Similarly, under the Marriage Assistance Scheme, Rs 234 crore has been reflected as disbursed, but around Rs 70 crore is reportedly still lying in the treasury.
“If funds amounting to Rs 70 crore and Rs 200 crore have not even left the treasury and remain with the Finance Department, how can this be termed as disbursal?” he asked, terming the figures as misleading and only on paper.
The legislator said that financial assistance schemes are designed to provide direct support to economically weaker sections and that delays in actual transfer defeat the objective of such welfare initiatives. He stressed that beneficiaries require timely financial support rather than procedural declarations.
