Seven Drug Peddlers Arrested in Parts of Kashmir


Srinagar, April 14, KNT: Police have arrested seven alleged drug peddlers and recovered significant quantities of contraband substances during multiple operations in Awantipora, Budgam, and Pulwama under the ongoing anti-narcotics drive in Jammu and Kashmir.
The coordinated action across districts reflects an intensified crackdown on drug networks, with seizures ranging from charas to cannabis during vehicle checks and residential searches.
In Awantipora, police intercepted an auto during naka checking and recovered approximately 50 grams of a charas-like substance from three occupants identified as Asim Ahmad, Uzan Farooq, and Farhan Rashid.
In Budgam, a police team from Magam intercepted a suspicious auto at Watmagam-Magam road. The driver and another individual attempted to flee but were apprehended, and 2.14 kilograms of crushed cannabis-like substance was recovered from the vehicle. The accused were identified as Firdous Ahmad Ganie and Naseer Ahmad Mir.

In Pulwama, police conducted a search at a residential house in Newa in the presence of a magistrate, recovering around 110 grams of charas powder and 850 grams of charas-like substance. Two persons, including a woman, were apprehended during the operation.
Police said all accused have been taken into custody and cases have been registered at respective police stations under relevant sections of law.
Further investigation is underway to trace the wider network involved in narcotics distribution. [KNT]
