Srinagar, July 27, KNT: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Monday said that the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir rests solely with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, asserting that Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma has no role in the decision-making process.
Speaking to reporters, Omar Abdullah dismissed suggestions that the Leader of Opposition would be consulted on the issue of statehood.
“Only the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister will decide when statehood is restored to Jammu and Kashmir. I don’t think Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma will be taken on board or that his suggestions will be sought,” the Chief Minister said.
In a sharp remark aimed at the BJP leader, Omar Abdullah said Sunil Sharma himself would come to know about the restoration of statehood through media reports.

“One day, after waking up from sleep, he will learn through media outlets that statehood has been restored,” he said.
The Chief Minister further remarked that if the Leader of Opposition had the authority to restore statehood, his party would have protested outside Sunil Sharma’s residence.
“If the Leader of Opposition could have restored statehood, we would have staged a protest outside his house. But we know that the decision lies with the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister,” Omar Abdullah added. [KNT]
