Engineer Rasheed to Observe Hunger Strike on July 13

Srinagar, July 10, KNT: The Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Friday announced that its president and Baramulla Member of Parliament, Engineer Rasheed, will observe a token hunger strike on July 13 to pay tribute to the martyrs of July 13, 1931.

In a statement, the party said the hunger strike would also serve as a protest against what it termed the continued disregard by the Union Government and the Jammu and Kashmir Government towards the legacy of the 1931 martyrs.

The party described the sacrifices of the July 13 martyrs as a defining chapter in the political history of Jammu and Kashmir, alleging that official observances associated with the day were discontinued in 2015 and that people have since been prevented from freely visiting the martyrs’ graveyard.

According to the AIP, the proposed hunger strike is intended to reaffirm that historical events and sacrifices cannot be erased or rewritten through administrative decisions.
