Iran Invites Mehbooba Mufti to Funeral of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei

 

Srinagar, July 2, KNT: Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti has received a formal invitation from the Office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran to attend the funeral ceremonies of Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei in Tehran.

According to the invitation issued by the International Relations Department of the Office of the Supreme Leader, Mehbooba Mufti has been invited as a distinguished guest from India to participate in the state funeral and commemorative events being organized in honour of the late Iranian leader.

The communication states that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei attained martyrdom on February 28, 2026, and that Iran will observe official mourning in accordance with national protocol before holding the funeral ceremonies in Tehran.

As per the schedule mentioned in the invitation, a farewell ceremony will be held at the Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla Complex in Tehran on July 3, followed by a commemorative session on July 4. The funeral procession of the late Supreme Leader is scheduled to take place on July 6.

The invitation, issued by Mohsen Qummi, Director of the International Relations Department of the Office of the Supreme Leader, describes Mehbooba Mufti’s participation as a reflection of the longstanding historical and civilisational ties between India and Iran. [KNT]
