Show Cause Notice issued to JKPDP candidate for Model Code violation in Budgam

Budgam, Nov 4, KNT: The Office of the Nodal Officer for Model Code of Conduct (MCC) in Budgam has issued a Show Cause Notice to Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP) candidate, Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi, for allegedly violating the Model Code of Conduct during the ongoing bye-election campaign for the 27-Budgam Assembly Constituency.

According to the notice, Mehdi is accused of conducting late-night political rallies and campaign activities in different areas of the constituency on November 1 and November 3, 2025, without obtaining the requisite permission from the competent authorities. The notice, signed by the MCC Nodal Officer, stated that several complaints were received from other contesting candidates regarding these unauthorised political events.

Reports from the Flying Squad Team (FST) Magistrates confirmed that campaign activities were held by the JKPDP candidate during late-night hours without prior approval. The notice also mentioned that videos of such rallies had been widely circulated on social media, establishing prima facie evidence of violation.

The Nodal Officer noted that such acts disturb the level playing field among contesting candidates and undermine the sanctity of the democratic process. Mehdi has been directed to submit a written explanation within 24 hours, stating why action should not be initiated against him for violating the Model Code of Conduct.
