Hideout detected, destroyed during joint search operation in North Kashmir’s Baramulla forest

Baramulla, Jan 4, KNT: A hideout was detected during a search operation in the Suchliwaran forest area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla, leading to the recovery of arms-related material and other items, officials said.

During a thorough search of the hideout, Baramulla Police in coordination with Central Reserve Police Force 53 Battalion, 46 Rashtriya Rifles, Army Surveillance Team recovered 24 rounds of AK-47 ammunition of Pakistani origin in rusted condition, two hand grenades.

Officials said the seized material also included a steel canister containing food material, a strip of medicines, a wireless antenna, and several tools including a saw, axe, spade, pickaxe and wire cutter, most of which were found in rusted condition.

In addition, daily-use articles such as umbrellas, a pair of shoes, socks, head warm caps, thermocot sheets, a steel bowl, carry bags, clothing items including a jacket and trousers, a blanket, a quilt, approximately one kilogram of rotten dates and an empty soft drink bottle were recovered from the hideout.

The search operation was carried out by Baramulla Police in coordination with Central Reserve Police Force 53 Battalion, 46 Rashtriya Rifles, Army Surveillance Team and the Bomb Disposal Squad, under the supervision of the Deputy Superintendent of Police Operations Baramulla.

After completion of all required formalities, the hideout was destroyed at the site. Officials said no loss of life or injury was reported during the operation.

Police said further investigation has been initiated to ascertain who had established the hideout and how long it had remained in use. [KNT]
