Terminations of employees unnecessary in times of peace: Chowdhary Ramzan

Srinagar, Jan 14, KNT: Rajya Sabha Member Chowdhary Ramzan on Wednesday termed the reported order to profile mosques across Kashmir as an interference in religious affairs and questioned the intent behind such measures.
Talking to reporters, Chowdhary Ramzan said that mosques are religious institutions and any attempt to profile them amounts to unnecessary interference in matters of faith. He said such actions only create mistrust and alienation among the people.
Reacting to the recent termination of government employees over alleged involvement in militancy-related activities, the Rajya Sabha member said that those accused must be given a fair opportunity to present their case. He said matters of such gravity should be examined by courts of law rather than decided through administrative orders.
Chowdhary Ramzan said the police don’t function under the elected government and that termination orders are issued from the Lieutenant Governor’s office. He questioned the timing and necessity of such actions, stating that by and large, the situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains peaceful.
“The termination of an employee is not a punishment limited to one individual. It impacts the entire family. Such action is unjustified without due process,” he said.
He stressed that cases involving allegations of wrongdoing should be referred to courts so that justice is delivered transparently and lawfully.
The MP further said that elected representatives in Jammu and Kashmir do not have control over law and order, adding that the political leadership is currently struggling and fighting for the restoration of statehood.
Chowdhary Ramzan said lasting peace and stability can only be achieved through justice, dialogue, and respect for democratic processes. [KNT]
