Tree uprooted by snowfall crashes onto primary school in north Kashmir

Kupwara, Jan 23, KNT: Heavy snowfall in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district caused damage to a government school building after a tree uprooted by the snowstorm fell onto its structure in the Mawer area, officials and locals said.

The incident occurred at the Government Primary School Muqam Yahama in Mawer, where accumulated snowfall weakened a nearby tree, leading to its collapse onto the school premises. The falling tree damaged the roof and parts of the building structure, raising concerns about safety.

Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the school was closed at the time of the incident. Locals said the impact caused visible damage to the roofing material and supporting structures, rendering portions of the building unsafe.

Officials from the education department and local administration were informed about the incident. An assessment of the damage is expected to be carried out to determine the extent of repairs required before the school can resume functioning.

The incident comes amid widespread snowfall across north Kashmir, which has led to disruption of normal life, closure of educational institutions and damage to property in several areas.
