Srinagar, Jan 28, KNT: Serious concerns have been raised by senior citizens and pensioners over the functioning of the Business Unit Brein Nishat of Jammu and Kashmir Bank, with repeated complaints alleging mismanagement at the passbook counter.

According to the affected customers, the staff member posted at the entry and passbook counter is not recording complete transaction details in pensioners’ passbooks. Instead of mentioning full credit and debit particulars such as monthly pension, arrears, gas subsidy and other entitled benefits, only the final balance is reportedly being entered.

Pensioners said this practice has led to confusion and distress, particularly among elderly customers who depend on passbooks as their primary and often only financial record. Several senior citizens said they are unable to verify whether their pensions, arrears or other benefits have been correctly credited due to the lack of detailed entries.

They said the issue was formally brought to the notice of the Branch Head of the Brein unit nearly five months ago. However, despite repeated reminders and complaints, no corrective action has reportedly been taken so far.

They termed the situation as a reflection of poor customer service and lack of accountability, especially towards pensioners who require transparency and timely redressal of grievances. They said repeated visits to the branch have failed to resolve the matter.

The pensioners have now appealed to higher authorities of Jammu and Kashmir Bank to take immediate steps, ensure proper supervision at the counters, and safeguard the interests of senior citizens and pensioners. [KNT]
