Teacher Booked for Harassment in Sopore, Suspended by Education Department

Sopore, April 13, KNT: Police have registered an FIR against a teacher for allegedly harassing a girl student in Sopore area of Baramulla, prompting protests at the school and subsequent action by authorities.

The incident triggered a protest by students within the school premises, following which a police team led by SSP Sopore Iftikhar Talib rushed to the spot and pacified the agitating students.

Police said the accused teacher, identified as Ghulam Hasan Mir, has been booked in connection with the case.

The development assumes significance as the allegations led to immediate unrest within the institution, drawing intervention from law enforcement and education authorities.

Officials said necessary legal proceedings have been initiated, and investigation into the matter is underway.

Meanwhile, the Directorate of School Education Kashmir has placed the teacher under suspension pending inquiry.

As per an official order, Ghulam Hasan Mir, Senior Lecturer Urdu at GHSS Sopore, has been suspended with immediate effect and attached to BHSS Badugam, Gurez, Bandipora, while a departmental inquiry has been ordered.

Authorities said further action will be taken based on the findings of the inquiry. [KNT]
