Robotic Knee Replacement Now Done in 12–15 Minutes: Park Hospital Experts

 

Srinagar, April 18: Highlighting advances in orthopaedic care, doctors from Park Hospital Mohali said that robotic knee replacement surgery can now be performed in just 12–15 minutes, offering faster recovery and improved outcomes for patients.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, the team emphasized growing awareness around osteoarthritis and the benefits of robotic joint resurfacing procedures. Park Hospitals, one of North India’s largest super-specialty healthcare networks, operates 17 hospitals with over 900 ICU beds, 45 modular operation theatres, and more than 1,200 doctors.

Dr. Bhanu Pratap Singh, Director of Orthopaedics and Robotic Joint Replacement Surgery, said the hospital’s Robotic Arthroplasty Center of Excellence in Mohali has successfully performed over 100 robotic joint resurfacing surgeries on patients from Srinagar.

He added that the hospital is empaneled under the Ayushman Bharat scheme, enabling eligible patients with Golden Cards to avail cashless joint replacement treatment.

“The number of knee replacement surgeries is steadily increasing in India. Each year, over 2.5 million patients undergo the procedure,” Dr. Singh said, explaining that total knee replacement involves placing metal implants to recreate the joint surface.

Dr. Anil Kapoor, Consultant Orthopaedics, noted that with robotic assistance, the procedure now requires no blood transfusion, no sutures, and no drains, and is performed through small incisions of about 3.5 to 4 inches.

“Patients are able to walk within four hours of surgery and can climb stairs the next day. Full recovery typically occurs within 7–10 days,” he said.

Ashish Chadha, Group CEO–North, added that the Mohali facility is empaneled with ECHS, CGHS, ESI, and multiple state government schemes, and routinely performs advanced robotic joint resurfacing and sports injury surgeries.
