Gusty Winds, Thunder Showers Expected at Several Locations, Public Advised to Avoid Water Bodies During Inclement Weather

 

Srinagar, May 8, KNT: Widespread cloud cover and intermittent rain continued to affect several parts of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday, with the Meteorological Department forecasting more unsettled weather over the coming days, particularly in the Jammu Division.

According to the latest update from the MET Centre Srinagar, light to moderate rain and thunderstorms were reported from many parts of the Jammu region and a few areas in Kashmir. The conditions are expected to persist till May 11, with scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and gusty winds likely during this period.

For May 12, officials have predicted a brief spell of light rain or thunder at isolated places across the Union Territory. However, from May 13 to 17, the weather is expected to turn generally dry, bringing relief from the current spell of unsettled conditions.

The department has issued a weather advisory, urging the public to follow local administration and traffic guidelines, particularly during periods of intense weather.

“Boating and Shikara rides in Dal Lake, Wular Lake, and other water bodies should be avoided during gusty winds or thunderstorms,” the advisory stated.

Authorities have also warned of potential landslides and mudslides at vulnerable locations due to intense showers in some areas. Travelers and residents in hilly regions are advised to remain cautious.

Meanwhile, a significant rise in day temperatures is expected from May 13 onward, especially in the Jammu region, as the weather clears up and dry conditions return. [KNT]
