Patwari Demanding Rs 1 Lakh for Land Demarcation, Nabbed While Accepting Rs 20K
Jammu, July 25, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday arrested a Patwari from Patwar Halqa Dansal in Jammu for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 20,000 from a complainant in exchange for a demarcation report.
According to ACB officials, the accused, identified as Chuni Lal, initially demanded Rs 1 lakh from the complainant. After negotiations, he agreed to accept Rs 75,000 and sought Rs 25,000 as the first installment. The complainant, unwilling to pay a bribe, approached the ACB and managed to arrange Rs 20,000.
A discreet verification confirmed the allegation, following which a case was registered at the ACB Police Station, Jammu.

A trap was subsequently laid by a team led by a Gazetted officer. Chuni Lal was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in the presence of independent witnesses. He was arrested on the spot and the bribe money was recovered.
Searches were also carried out at the office and in-laws’ house of the accused in the presence of Magistrates and witnesses. Further investigation is underway. [KNT]
