Frustrated with the unavailability of doctors at the government sub-district hospital Beerwah in Central Kashmir’s Budgam district, locals on Wednesday staged a protest outside the hospital prompting police and district administration to intervene and pacify the protesters.

The protest by the locals moved authorities to action and soon Tehsildar Beerwah rushed to the spot and assured them doctors will be deployed in the hospital without any delay.

One of the protesters told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that three doctors who were managing the affairs of the hospital were transferred to other hospitals. “Sub-District Hospital Beerwah caters to the needs of thousands of villagers and yet this hospital is being made non-functional for reasons better known to the Chief Medical Officer Budgam.

The protesters alleged that when patients are brought to hospital for treatment, they are referred to private hospitals as there are no doctors available. Several complaints were made but no action was taken.

Chief Medical Officer, Budgam, Dr Ayoub told KNT that no doctors have been transferred from the hospital but have only been sent to other facilities on a temporary basis. He said all the doctors will be back at the hospital. [KNT]
