The shortage of potable water in the ongoing holy month of Ramadan sparked a protest in the Delina area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district even as the protesters blocked the vehicular movement, much inconvenience to the commuters.

Eyewitnesses told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that a large number of protesters assembled on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Delina and raised slogans against PHE Department.

They alleged that different localities of the district have been facing acute shortage of water.

“We had hoped that this Ramadan, authorities will resolve our issue, but it still persists. Let alone taking a bath, there is no water for drinking,” the protesters said.

The demonstration and blocking of traffic forced police and civil administration to rush to the spot. Protesters dispersed peacefully after being assured that the matter will be resolved without any delay. [KNT]
