The office of the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO) is virtually defunct in the absence of any ARTO in South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
In the absence of any ARTO who enjoys the licensing authority in respect of driving and conductor licenses, the people of the district have been suffering badly. No trials for obtaining driving licenses have been taking place in the district and further, no new licenses are being issued.
“It’s not the question of issuing licenses only, but the process of registration of vehicles has stopped much exasperation to the applicants,” a native told news agency KNT adding that the issuance of basic and national permits for goods vehicles, three-wheeler, Taxis, Maxis and other carriages have also come to a grinding halt.
The locals alleged that the department is more concerned about compound challans and least bothered to mitigate their sufferings.
They appealed to RTO Kashmir to depute an ARTO for the district without any delay.
When contacted, Regional Transport Officer Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari in a WhatsApp text responded that ARTO in Pulwama district will join within a day or two. [KNT]
