Police File Murder Case Against CRPF in Saidapora Killing Incident

Srinagar, March 15, KNT: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have filed a murder case against personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) for the alleged killing of a man in the Saidapora area of Srinagar on March 13, following the Bemina Fidayeen attack.
According to the police, Altaf Ahmed Wani, a father of three daughters, was killed by CRPF personnel from the 73rd Battalion during a stone-pelting incident in Saidapora. However, the National Conference refuted allegations of Wani’s involvement in stone-pelting, describing him as a staunch party supporter with no prior record of such activities.
The government, taking serious note of the incident, directed the police to initiate action against the CRPF personnel involved. As a result, a murder case was registered under sections 302, 147, 148, and 336 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) at the Soura Police Station.
“We have filed an FIR (13/2013) and initiated an investigation into the matter,” a police official told Kashmir News Trust. “The investigation is ongoing, but no arrests have been made so far,” the official added.
Director General of Police Ashok Prasad confirmed that an FIR has been lodged and assured that the police are actively pursuing the investigation to establish accountability in the case.
The incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with demands for a fair and transparent probe into the circumstances surrounding Wani’s death. [KNT]
