Coming down heavily on those who allegedly patronize corruption in the system, Chief Secretary Dr Arun Kumar Mehta said that people have to raise their voices against corruption then only Jammu and Kashmir can move towards the path of development. He said LG alone cannot do anything till people don’t stand up.

The Chief Secretary was addressing a gathering after LG Manoj Sinha laid the foundation stone of 125 Bed New District Hospital at Reshipora Budgam.

Dr Arun Kumar as per the news agency Kashmir News Trust said that only those can talk about e-governance who are sincere. “Those who are tainted can’t run a campaign against corruption.”

“The basic motive to implement e-service in Jammu and Kashmir was to eradicate corruption everywhere but some people don’t like it and twist the facts. It’s not a good mentality. We are here today and tomorrow there will be somebody else but people will stay here and if Jammu Kashmir has to progress then people have to stand up and differentiate between good and bad,” Mehta said.

Without naming any political party or leader, Dr Arun Kumar said: “For these people the recruitment of police officers was corruption but when 2,82,000 people were recruited through backdoor appointments that was not corruption for them.”

He castigated those who claim that there is corruption in the present system. “For the last three years we borrowed Rs 31,000 crores to pay the private bills in the power sector but when we install smart meters to supply uninterrupted power, people think that it is not good,” he said adding that LG has already said that something will be done for the poor as for as the installation of smart meters are concerned.
