J&K Govt to Introduce Digital Family ID System to Improve Public Service Delivery

Srinagar, June 30, KNT: In a bid to streamline welfare services and eliminate redundancy, the Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to introduce a unique family identification system for every household in the Union Territory.

The initiative, discussed in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo, aims to centralize and simplify citizen data, helping departments identify and reach eligible beneficiaries more efficiently. Dulloo emphasized that the system would boost transparency, cut duplication, and improve the government’s ability to track the success of its welfare schemes.

Talat Parvez, Secretary of the Planning, Development and Monitoring Department, outlined the initiative’s scope and the long-term benefits for both the government and the public. IT Secretary Piyush Singla assured that the technical infrastructure and expertise are already in place to support this ambitious move.

A key concern addressed was the repeated paperwork citizens face when applying for different government schemes. Officials believe that the family ID will serve as a single, reliable data source to ease public burden and improve service delivery.

The database will draw initial information from existing platforms like the Public Distribution System and Ayushman Bharat. Mechanisms for updating records in case of births, deaths, or migration were also discussed to ensure the ID remains current and accurate. [KNT]
