Forest Fire Breaks Out in Gungangeer Forest Area, Threatens Green Cover


Ganderbal, June 1, KNT: A forest fire broke out in Compartment No. 65B of Gungangeer under Forest Range Kangan in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district on Monday, with flames spreading rapidly and threatening green cover in the area.
The incident has raised concern over potential ecological damage as fires in forested landscapes often spread quickly, particularly across vulnerable terrain and vegetation.
Reports said the blaze suddenly erupted in the forest compartment at Gungangeer near Sonamarg and continued to spread across parts of the affected area.

Local residents said the advancing fire posed a threat to small green trees and surrounding forest land.
The exact cause of the fire was not immediately known.
Locals appealed to the Forest Department and concerned authorities to intervene without delay and launch measures to contain the blaze before further damage occurs.
When contacted, a Forest official said that a team has been dispatched to assess the situation and efforts will be made to contain the flames. [KNT]
