Goods Train Derails in J&K’s Kathua Due to Flooded Tracks, No Casualties Reported

Kathua, July 10, KNT: Train services along the crucial Jammu-Pathankot railway corridor were severely disrupted on Thursday after two bogies of a goods train derailed in the Lakhanpur area of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district due to flooding on the tracks.

According to railway officials, the incident occurred while the train was en route from Jammu to Punjab. The derailed bogies veered off the track as a result of waterlogging caused by incessant rainfall in the region.

Fortunately, no loss of life or injuries were reported. The derailment, however, led to a temporary suspension of train movement on the affected stretch, causing inconvenience to commuters and impacting freight logistics.

The incident has once again highlighted the vulnerability of railway infrastructure during monsoon months, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas like Lakhanpur. Officials are also reviewing drainage systems along the track to prevent such occurrences in the future.

Railway authorities have urged passengers to stay updated through official bulletins regarding the status of train services on the Jammu-Pathankot route. [KNT]
