Red alert withdrawn, yellow warning in place for Jammu region

Jammu, Aug 28, KNT: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh on Thursday said that weather conditions in Jammu and Kashmir have shown significant improvement, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to downgrade its earlier “red colour” warning to “yellow”.

The minister, quoting the IMD report, said that only isolated heavy rainfall is expected today and tomorrow in parts of Jammu, Udhampur, and Doda, with an estimated 7 to 11 cm of rain in 24 hours at one or two places. He added that the weather is likely to improve further from August 29 across the entire Union Territory.

The development comes as several districts of Jammu are still battling flood-related disruption, while residents are hoping for a respite to speed up relief and restoration efforts. [KNT]
